WHAT IS MURANO GLASS?

Murano glass originates from the Venetian island of Murano, Italy, where master glass artisans have practiced their craft for centuries.

Each piece is individually handcrafted using traditional techniques passed down through generations. Rich mineral pigments, precious metals, and intense heat are used to create the vibrant colours and luminous finishes Murano glass is know for around the world.

Many Murano beads are infused with genuine 24 KT gold or sterling silver foil, giving the glass its unmistakable depth, shimmer and artistry.

Today, authentic Murano glass continues to be treasured as on of Italy’s cerebrated art forms.

IS MURANO GLASS FRAGILE?

Many people are surprised to discover that authentic Murano glass is more durable than it appears. Murano glass is created using intensive heat and then carefully cooled techniques that strengthen the glass and give it unremarkable durability for wearable jewelry.

While all fine jewelry should be treated with care, Murano glass is not as delicate as many people imagine. In many ways the density and feel of the Murano beads are similar to glass marbles-smooth, solid and substantial. That is part of what has allowed Murano glass artistry to endure for centuries.

Caring for Murano Glass jewelry:

Avoid contact with chlorinated water and harsh chemicals. They can be washed with a mild soap or with a clean, very soft dry cloth. Store in a box when not being used in a cool, dry place. Always wipe sterling silver after wearing and store in a sealed plastic bag. Remove rubber stoppers from earrings as well (rubber promotes tarnishing).
